Sliding glass door replacement – 79 /12 versus 81 1/2?

I have the opportunity to get sliding glass doors and/or french doors from a relative (free – Pella 15yrs old). I measured my opening at it is 79 1/2″ and the ones I can get show 81 1/2. Mine are original and from a 1963 home. Would these fit if I tore the old ones out. I assumed that my were the standard 6′8″ doors and the Pella windows are standard also. Any ideas if they would work? Thanks

your best bet is to remove the trim casing to expose the actual studs. 2 inches of difference is a lot, generally there is only a half inch per side of adjustment. Although it may be possible to do with adjustment to both the jack stud and king stud, I would look to see if I could find another more suitable door to install. I have had good luck in checking with both Home Depot and some local window manufactures to see if they have had any returns for wrong sizing. It is worth taking the time to see.
