1989 Mercedes hood 300E ornament installation?

Hi there, I *just* bought a 1989 Mercedes 300E from a Russian guy. He took off the dealer ornament, because he claimed people always stole it. I had asked him to put it back in for me, and he didn’t even bother.

Very simple…put the hood star through the hole in the grille and then lift up the hood. On the underside of the grille where the base assembly is now poking through, take a pair of pliers and turn the bottom clamp ( looks like a u-shape ) a 1/4 turn. You will hear a snapping sound as the spring tension snaps that clamp up on the underside of the grille and that is what holds it into place.

The previous post mentions pulling out the pin. DO NOT DO THAT. The pin is what holds the assembly into place and if you pull it out, you will have a really tough time putting the whole thing back together.
