1992-05-14 – Lyle Alzado, NFL defense linesman (Raiders), dies of cancer at 43
professional American football defensive lineman of the National Football League who played 15 seasons for the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders. He was drafted in the 4th round (79th overall) of the 1971 NFL Draft by the Broncos. He played college football at Yankton College.

Throughout his career, Alzaldo was famous for his intense and intimidating style of play. In 196 career games, he racked up 112.5 sacks and earned two Pro Bowl selections in 1977 and 1978. He would spend his last years in the league with the Oakland Raiders where he would win a championship in Super Bowl XVIII. Alzado died after a battle with cancer in 1992 at the age of 43.

American football defensive back in the NFL.
Waymer graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1976. He played college football at Notre Dame, graduating in 1980, and was drafted in the 1980 NFL Draft in the second round by the New Orleans Saints, where he played until 1989. He was offered a contract by the New Jersey Generals of the USFL, but opted to remain in New Orleans, saying, “I always wanted to play there. I’ve got a lot of friends there, and that is where, hopefully, I’ll finish out my career.” He played for the San Francisco 49ers in 1990 and 1991 and the Los Angeles Raiders in 1992. During the 1993 offseason, Waymer died on April 30, 1993, at the age of 34, from a heart attack brought on by cocaine.
