Between Heaven And Earth (1992)
The Heart of the Bible
In the exact center of the Bible you will find Psalm 118:8—the precise heart of Scripture.
This verse reads, “It is better to have trust in God than confidence in man.” I think it no accident that our Lord saw fit to put this particular statement in the very center.
And that, I believe, is precisely what Christianity is all about—learning to put full trust in God and little, if any, in man.
God never lies, never fails us, and never goes back on His Word (never reneges on His promises).
We can stake our lives on “thus saith the Lord.” How many fellow humans can you say that about?
He is our Father, and our Father really does know best!
When He said to become as little children, He meant that we are to trust Him as our heavenly Father, just as our children trust us as their earthly parents. And they will keep on trusting us, unless we do something to destroy that trust, and, sadly, these days many parents do betray their children in many ways.
But, as stated above, our heavenly Parent never fails us and never goes back on His Word. So that makes it relatively easy to place our wholehearted confidence in him, or at least it should. I mean, who else could you trust with every fiber of your being, knowing that He is always there for you?
Personally, my husband and I do not trust medical doctors. (We feel that they are there for a purpose—for unbelievers.) Neither of us has been to one in about twenty years, and we are in our mid-sixties. There are no prescription bottles in our bathroom cabinet. We do not carry “health” insurance (a misnomer, if ever there was one), because we have the blessed assurance that comes only from trusting in our Lord alone.
And yes, we both have had healings . . . I was delivered from a lump in my breast in 1992 and from severe chest pain a few years later.
My husband has been healed many times—everything from a major heart attack to a dislocated shoulder to a broken ankle to third degree burns, and other accidents too numerous to mention. (In July/August of this year alone he fell from 9-foot high scaffolding onto a concrete floor, not one, but three times! He got up claiming his healing and praising the Lord each time.)
This kind of trust does not come overnight, but only as our faith has grown over the years by reading and studying the Holy Word.
It’s a great way to live . . . c’mon on in . . . the Living Water’s fine!
