Was the film ‘Billy the Liar’ a musical?

I recently saw the musical production of Billy the Liar, and I know that there was a 1963 movie of it, too. I was just wondering if this movie was a musical also? Like My Fair Lady. I believe Billy the Liar was also a novel before it was a play, much like Pygmalion/my Fair Lady set up.

‘Billy the Liar’ was a novel written in 1959. It was adapted into a 3 act play in 1960 and in 1963 was made into a movie starring Albert Finney.

The musical, starring Michael Crawford and Elaine Page, had a successful run on the West End in 1974.

There was also an American adaptation made for TV in 1979, starring Steve Guttenburg.

In 2004, the film was named one of the 12 greatest British films, by, I think Movie News, or something like that. Not sure of mag. title.
