Broken English (1996)

I’m looking for the name of an upbeat english pop song from 1996 or so that got a lot of US airplay?
I can hear the song in my head, but the only lyric i can remember is something like “why do you treat me this way”, which unfortunately is a very common lyric. also, there is a lyric where the guy’s voice sort of breaks and goes high when he says “oh so”. it’s just not enough info for me to search on.
Your question really got me thinking. I love Britpop, but the only song which came to my head from around 1996, where the singer’s voice breaks high, that got a lot of US airtime is “In The Meantime” by Spacehog. Such a great tune… music video below.

Broken English
$6.34 Though made by the daughter of iconoclastic filmmaker John Cassavetes, Broken English is a surprisingly old-fashioned affair. Just as her friend Sofia Coppola wrote about a woman much like herself for Lost in Translation, Zoe Cassavetes has done something similar for her first film (although Before Sunset seems to have exerted a greater influence).
