Cast Away (2000)
A Fairy Tail For the Assertive Woman!!?
A Fairytale For The Assertive Woman Of The 2000’s
Once upon a time,
in a land far away,
A beautiful, independent,
self assured princess,
happened upon a frog as she sat
contemplating ecological issues
on the shores of an unpolluted pond
in a meadow near her castle.
The frog hopped into the Princess’ lap
and said:
” Elegant Lady,
I was once a handsome Prince,
until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.
One kiss from you, however,
and I will turn back
into the dapper, young Prince that I am
and then, my sweet, we can marry
and setup housekeeping in yon castle with my Mother,
where you can prepare my meals,
clean my clothes, bear my children,
and forever feel grateful and happy doing so.”
That night,
on a supper of lightly grilled frogs legs
seasoned in a white wine
she chuckled to herself and thought:
“I don’t think so!”
I didn’t know fairies had tails!

Warning
$4.37 After two years off following the release of the genre-expanding Nimrod, the usually insouciant trio Green Day are open to some weighty self-analysis. Gone are the raging rants, cartoonish antics, and anthropological musings about the punk scene, replaced by an introspection that brings to mind Michael Stipe and Bono. Like the U2 frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong still hasn't found what he's looking ... |

The Pirates Of Penzance
$17.93 Producer Joseph Papp's Broadway spin on Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance cannily employs pop firepower in its casting, adding an inviting Yankee accent to roles normally associated with (and sometimes embalmed in) plummy English locution. Erstwhile country-rocker Linda Ronstadt, who by this point had already proven she could tackle pre-rock pop standards, stretches successfully as its ... |

Where the Heart Is: Music from the Motion Picture
$11.98 This is exactly the kind of soundtrack you'd expect to complement a movie that takes a humorous if sentimental look at the power of love and friendship. Natalie Portman, Ashley Judd, Stockard Channing, and Joan Cusack star in the film and they have musical counterparts in Beth Nielsen Chapman, Martina McBride, and teen blues star Shannon Curfman. All tracks are manicured performances high in cinem... |

Cast Away [VHS]
$0.08 Cast Away is a good movie that wants to be much better. While director Robert Zemeckis's earlier film Contact achieved a kind of mainstream spiritual significance, Cast Away falls just short of that goal. That may explain why the film's most emotionally powerful scene involves the loss of an inanimate object, even as it presents a heart-rending dilemma in its very human final act. It's three mov... |
