The 1981 film ‘Chariots Of Fire’ posthumously made him one of
Britain’s best known Olympians. In preparation for the 1924 Paris
Olympics, he hired a professional coach, inviting much censure from
the Amateur Athletic Association. Together they spent nine months
perfecting his start, arm action, stride pattern, and the drop finish
of torso on the tape. At Paris, in the 100m he took the gold medal and
set a new Olympic record, becoming the first European to win a 100m
title. Name him.
Harold Abraham GB at 10.6 which would stand for two more Olympics.
But it is hand timing so who knows how close anyone was until years later.
