Clueless (1995)
standard deviation help?
From 1984 to 1995, the winning scores for a golf tournament were 276, 279, 279, 277, 278, 278, 280, 282 285, 272, 279, and 278. Using the stadard deviation for the sample Sx, find the percent of these winning scores, that fall within one standard deviation of the mean..
Im comletely clueless, how is this done?
N=12 observations. Mean = sum/12 = 278.58.
Standard deviation: square root of:
(the sum of squared deviations from the mean divided by N – 1) = 3.147. Within one standard deviation of the mean I read as mean plus 1 st dev and mean – 1 stdev. When you compute these quantities (275.46 and 281.7) and compare the individual scores to that range, you’ll find that 9 out of 12 or 75% of the scores fall within that range.
