Dark Of The Sun (1968)

In 1965, as a teenager I found human bones but did not report it. Should I do something now?

A friend and I were cutting high school on a glorious spring day in leafy suburban Rockland County N.Y. when we found a skull and some human long bones among rocks. They were dark and we assumed old, probably a long dead native American. As we were truants we did not report it (my friend had a brutal father and would have copped a severe beating). In 1968 I had moved to England and began thinking about the skull. I wrote a detailed letter to the NY state police about the remains, I included my phone number and address but never got a reply. Recently I learned that darkness of bones does not mean they are old, just that they had not been sun bleached. I recently looked at were I found the bones on Google Earth and it looks like the area has not been disturbed or developed. Should I do anything about it or is it too late? More important if I act who should I contact as the local NY police are unlikely to be interested (I live in Australia)?

call the NY police precinct closest to where the body is and ask to speak to someone in the cold case division.
they probably took the letter as a hoax or joke. i know that sounds bad..but you wouldn’t believe how many false crimes are reported by letter…there’s just not enough man power.
talking to someone directly would probably convince them that there is something they truly need to check out.
if that still doesn’t work…call ANY local news station in NY and tell them your story. perhaps w/pressure from the press they would get in gear!
