Television Problem! 10 points!?
So about 4-5 days ago, I was playing video games on my Tv, and there was a thunder storm going. I remember a Lightning strike and everything in the room turned off and back on again, except the Tv. I turned the TVs Master power button off and then on again, and then used the panel on it to turn it on, but all that came up was static, and no other buttons on the panel of the Tv work when it is on, the only thing it responds to is the master power switch again and then I go through the same process of the panel and so on. I think it is an internal problem but I do not know anything about Tvs so I need to ask.
Some more additional information: It is a pretty old 1990’s era Tv made by Mitsubishi, I have tried switching the outlet the cord is in multiple times with the same result, and the reason I have the question is because I haven’t found a like question such as this where the Tv would turn on but not respond to other commands. Please and Thank you! Sorry for the large wall of text.
The TV was most likely damaged by a power surge. The fact that the power switch still works, but no other buttons, doesn’t really mean much except that not every part was burned out.
Despite that, it’s probably not worth trying to fix the TV because it’s so old.
P.S. Next time there’s a thunder storm going, turn off all your electronics – thunder storms can cause damaging power surges, as you have learned. It also isn’t a bad idea to even unplug the more expensive items. You can also get surge suppressors for the power cords which will reduce (but not 100% eliminate) the chance of this happening again.
