Iis there a “phase out” or something regarding juvinile cases in utah?

I recieved a letter today @ my dad’s house from the court saying I have 25 hours of community service that I need to do or the court will possibly do any or all of the following :charge me additional fees, suspension of drivers lisense, a formal court hearing, converson of hours to a fine. Keep in mind this happend in 1998, 8 years ago, and it was from my juivinile record! I’m now 23, I have full time job, 3 kids, and I’m going to school part time. I don’t have ANY TIME to do this. They want these done by the 28th of this month. I think it’s sooo rediculous. About 4 or 5 years ago I tried to get this all cleared up, I went to the courthouse and got a copy of my record and saw the 25 hours, I asked the lady who printed them out how I could take care of these hours and she told me “Don’t worry about it, It’s on your juvinile record?” I guess my real question would be… Is there a “phase out” or something regarding juvinile cases in utah? I just don’t think it’s right……

My suggestion would be to contact the Court to speak with a judge or probation officer. Let them know that you were a minor and did not understand the terms of the order. An adult should have been representing you and explaining to you the procedures.

Try to plea that you are reformed and that community service would jepordize your full time job. Let the judge know that juvenile records are sealed to protect the child, and if you have to explain to your employer that you have to do community service due to an infraction when you were a minor, you would not be given the protection that juvenile records are not to be exposed.
