Borderline Personality Disorder in Fatal Attraction(1987)?
HI guys. I hope you are well. Glen Closes character in the movie Fatal Attraction suffers from BPD. I was diagnosed with this illness myself a few years ago but after seeking help and being medicated, i have been stable for a long time now.I feel it definitely stays true to the illness what with the emotional unstableness, impulsivity, fear of abandonment, suicide threats etc. and Glen Close must have researched it heavily.I know it is only a film but do you feel that her character is an accurate portroyal of the disorder?Albeit a more extreme portrayal of BPD.

I agree she did her homework. She is a fine actress. I thought the movie did a very good job of portraying BPD right up until the climactic scenes at the end – where the producers opted to drop the original script (Alex Forrest commits suicide) for a more crowd-pleasing shoot-out in which the “bad guy” gets shot. I also agree with your comment that it is a more extreme – or dramatic – portrayal. I guess that’s more entertaining!
