What could cause a transmission to force out the dipstick?
I got in my car to go to work yesterday and it wouldn’t get in gear. I carpooled with my wife and when I got home I took a better look. The dipstick was out about an inch. It was slightly bowed and there was about a 16th inch deep ding in the metal itself. I have never noticed my stick being bent before and the ding was definitely pretty fresh.
Another odd thing is that the fluid was still full and the area around it didn’t appear to have an fluid on it. I would expect if pressure built up enough to ding the metal as it was pushing out then I would have lost a good amount of fluid.
My car is a 1994 Honda Civic with an Automatic transmission. Thanks for any help.
i own a repair shop,and what causes this is they have a vent tube on top of them,and if it gets clogged up it doesn’t have any other way to release the pressure that builds up in the transmission,so it blows the dip stick up so it can release it through the filler tube,that’s what causes this there’s nothing loose in it that causes this,but the vent tube on top of it needs cleaned badly if its doing this,good luck,i hope this help,s.
