has anyone ever seen the movie Gigot?
i need to find this movie it is a fabulous movie starring jackie gleason called gigot it was released i think in 1962 please someone help me if you got one on vhs or dvd and want to get rid of it ill gladly take it please some one help me thanks…
…I have seen it, and it’s one of the most beautifully heart-felt and heart-wrenching films ever made….a masterpiece, by the Great One, himself, the late Jackie Gleason. It has been on my DVD ‘want list’ for years, and the videotape (…which was released in the early ’80’s, and quickly puled off the market, for legal reasons) is sort of a long-sought ‘holy grail’, movie-wise. The existence of actual copies of this film, has fallen well into the realm of urban legend, amongst movie collectors…
…there ARE ‘pirated’ DVD dupes of “Gigot” out there, for sale, but the print contained on these pirated discs, was reportedly taken off of a televised broadcast (…Turner Classic Movies has been known to run the film, once in a blue moon, and AMC will run the film, as well, but with numerous commercial interruptions…this is where I got mine)…
…apparently, the legal wrestling about this film, still lies between the company who originally produced the film, Seven Arts Productions (…now, United Artists), the company who originally distributed the film theatrically, 20th Century Fox, and the company who re-distributed the film theatrically (…a re-release), Warner Brothers; reportedly, the legal wrestling still continues, even to this day, and of course, the devoted fans of this beloved film, are caught in the middle, and are the ones who are made to suffer and wait…
…until such time that the multifaceted battle for the rights of this film, finally sees closure, we loyal fans of this great film have at least been given a respectable and acceptable consolation; in 2004, actor William H. Macy wrote and starred in a very respectable and heart-felt contemporary remake of “Gigot”, entitled “The Wool Cap”. If you haven’t seen this film, you might just want to check it out…
