Henry V (1989

Is it based on actual events?

Is the 1989 movie of “Henry V” historically accurate? I need to do a paper on the movie and i need to make sure it isn’t of Shakespeare’s fantasy. If you know a lot about the middle ages and this is an accurate portray of an event in history then please let me know ASAP thanks!

Henry V was a real king. He fought the Battle of Agincourt, described in the play, and the major characters (or at least those who were nobles) were real people. Apart from that, there is a lot of propaganda and poetic licence in the details.

Very few films come close to the brilliance Kenneth Branagh achieved with his first foray into screenwriting and direction. Henry V qualifies as a masterpiece, the kind of film that comes along once in a decade. He eschews the theatricality of Laurence Olivier's stirring, fondly remembered 1945 adaptation to establish his own rules. Branagh plays it down and dirty, seeing the bard's play through r...
