Hook (1991)
Is the Peter Pan movie very similar to the book?
I’m talking about the 2003 movie with (the amazing) Jason Issacs as Hook and Mister Darling. I haven’t read the book yet, but as I watch the movie now, I wonder how different they are.
And for fun, who do you think made a better Hook? Isaacs or Dustin Hoffman (in Hook, 1991)?

Oh, okay. I thought it had been a novel first, but apparently Peter just showed up in a novel before that, called The Little White Bird. His first and full story was a play… Thanks for clearing that up!
The 2003 film differs in many ways from the original story*, but it is much more faithful to it than the 1953 film by Disney. P. J. Hogan left out a number of things from the book, such as Peter being saved by the Never Bird, and there were things that he made up entirely, such as Aunt Millicent, and Hook flying. I have some issues with how they handled certain scenes and the tone of it in places, but overall, it’s much better than the many adaptations of novels that invent a whole new plot and change all of the characters. (The most faithful film was a live-action silent movie made in 1924.)
*The Peter Pan story we’re all familiar with was originally written by J. M. Barrie as a play in 1904, then adapted by him into a novel in 1911. The section about Peter in the The Little White Bird (1902) was just his “origin story”, telling how he flew away from home and met the fairies.
