Huckleberry Finn (1974)

10 Points!!! Best Answer Describe blacks role in the three different scenarios?

The first is in the book Huckleberry Finn, The second is Blazing Saddles(1974), and the 3rd is todays movies.

I think in Huckleberry Finn blacks are oppressed by whites, in Blazing saddles the black is given an opportunity although not taken serious. In todays movies how could you compare it to the other two different time periods?

I would take a positive tact. In HF, Mark Twain was sympathetic to the “peculiar institution”. Jim was a good man, a smart man and would play dumb. Yes he was a slave but his character was not child like. Meaning, Twain / Huck Finn saw him as an equal even if the rest of the world did not. Much is the same in Blazing Saddles, the blacks know everything and the whites are a bunch of obtuse bafoons. Cleavon Little’s Bart would be similar to Twain’s Jim that he plays dumb at time but is really brilliant and successful. Gene Wilder as “Jim” is similar to HF. Your call on today’s movies. Look at WIll Smith’s or Jamie Foxx to see strong leading men contrast them with Martin Lawrence or Chris Fox who satire black life. Same satire could be said about Blazing Saddles. While Twain could be satirrical, I don’t think that was the case in Huck Finn.
