storing old motorcycle!?
Hi, I have a 1980’s yamaha motorcycle which i have stripped down. I will be storing it for a number of years until i move home and start restoring it. I want to know if i should drain the oil out of the forks or leave the oil in? or does it matter?
Also i have noticed light rust forming inside the petrol tank, is there anything i can do about this or is it anything to worry about? there has been no petrol left in the tank as i know if you leave petrol in the tank it will rot.

Leave the oil in the forks alone. Drain and refresh all engine oil. Put some fresh fuel in the tank, slosh it around and drain. Refill tank and add some fuel stabilizer. Disconnect battery. A battery tender might help, but will still need attention. Just plan on a new batery. Put bike on center-stand to un-weight tires. There is also a product to apply to metal/chrome finishes to help with corrision. Most auto parts stores can help you with this. But wait…..you said a 1980’s YAMAHA???????? WHY???
