Kiss Me Goodbye (1982)

Is this a good deal for a 6.2 diesel Suburban?

Question for all you GM guys:

I found a 1982 GMC Suburban 1500, 2wd, for about $950. It has badges on the back that say “trailering special” and has a hitch, the right mirrors, and the wiring for trailer brake lights already installed on it; I’m looking for something to use to tow my Honda S2000 plus some of my stuff down to California when I move at the end of the month and this would be cheaper than a uhaul and I’d actually have some property at the end of it rather than just kissing my $$$ goodbye… I figure I can sell it down in CA or hold onto it for weekend trips.

The body is in good shape, it runs pretty well, no rust which is great for being up here in Washington. You think this is a good deal? Anything I should know and look for before I plop down the money for it tomorrow?

Those old naturally aspirated diesels are next to gutless, but they do get good fuel economy.

If it looks clean, and will make the trip then go for it. Those motors are good for well over 200k if not abused. It will not have overdrive, so your not going to get there fast. Not a lot can go wrong with the motor; once you start it it will run until you cut fuel (no electricity is required to run).

If you think it will get the job done, go for it!
