Lady Kung Fu (1979)

How has London changed during the last 28 years?

I lived in London as a student in 1976-1979…..2nd class air mail to Malaysia was 71/2 pence…. the cheapest ride on London’s underground was 5 pence—–there was Radio 1, 2, 3 and 4, and Radio London, and for TV, BBC1, BBC2 and ITN…..the Mile End tube station was closed …..Heathrow was 3 terminals….1, 2, and 3…..and elderly ladies greet you with “hello, love” at he Sunday fruit market. and young boys come up to you to ask- do you know kung fu ?…….I an due for a visit next year- will there be another culture shock ?

Mile End’s open again, but the Tube’s a lot dearer now. Get an Oyster card to save money. We’ve added BBC Radio 5, BBC3, BBC4, Channel 4 and loads more channels. There’s another terminal at Heathrow. Elderly ladies are still sweet and the kids are still full of mischief. If you look ‘foreign’ no one will bat an eyelid these days, you’ll blend right in, it’s a very multicultural city.

Hope you enjoy your visit!
