Burt Lancaster

Burt Lancaster, whose birth name is Burton Stephen Lancaster, was born in New York City, USA on November 2, 1913. To begin with he was an all round athlete in high school and toured with his co-athlete as a team of acrobats, appearing in circuses, and nightclubs. Lancaster, Burt served in the Army during World War II (1939-1945), dancing and acting in stage shows for the soldiers. He got his best chance and opening for bigger performance in 1945 when he caught the attention of a Hollywood talent scout while appearing in a play on Broadway. Lancaster became a star in his first film. This film was about the gangster story The Killers (1946) which made him the promising star of the future. In 1948, Lancaster formed a production company that made several worth remembering films as Paddy Chayefsky’s Marty that was Oscar winner 1955, and The Catered Affair (1956). In the 1980s he appeared as a supporting player in a number of movies, such as Local Hero (1983) and Field of Dreams (1989). However, it will be the sound of his voice, the way that he laughed, and the larger-than-life characters he played that will always be remembered.

Burt Lancaster received ‘Academy Award Nominations’ for his best performances in the most famed film of the time ‘From Here to Eternity’ (1953), Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), and Atlantic City (1981). His other major films include Brute Force (1947), The Flame and the Arrow (1950), Come Back, Little Sheba (1952), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), The Leopard (1963), The Swimmer (1967), and Local Hero (1983). He also starred and directed the Western motion picture The Kentuckian (1955).

He had a deep meaningful, killing smile, which they called “ The Grin ”.

He had a great, tough physical stature. Commenting on his physique, director John Frankenheimer once said, “”Nobody ever looked like Burt Lancaster in ‘The Crimson Pirate’ – 1952.
