Midnight Cowboy (1969)

Best tragic comedies?

My choice “Midnight cowboy”(1969) and “Harold and Maude”(1971)

What’s your choice?

“Midnight Cowboy” is a drama with comic touches. It’s not funny enough to qualify for being called a dramedy or a black comedy. Perhaps it depends on the viewer though, as we each bring different outlooks to the theater and even when watching at home.

But, “Harold & Maude” IS a black comedy and an excellent choice.

My favorite black comedies include “The War of the Roses”, “Harold & Maude”, “Death Becomes Her” (not as dark as some), “Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb”, “The Graduate” (which mixes some very dark moments with extremely funny ones), “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?” (mixes bleak moments with instances that jolt us into laughter, especially over the bizarre look and behavior of Jane), “Deathtrap”, “The Trouble with Harry” and “Weekend at Bernie’s”.

With direct ties to Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66, as well as cult faves the Millennium and Sagittarius, the Groop's baroque folk-rock appeared in the soundtrack to 1969 Oscar-winning film Midnight Cowboy. Embellished with bonus tracks, rare photos a...

Features the hit Nilsson song "Everybody's Talkin'." With Sylvia Miles, John McGiver, Bre...
