An elderly king must come to terms with his past as he plots his nation's future in this historical drama. In 1183, aging monarch King Henry II (Patrick Stewart) decides it is time to pick an heir to his throne, and he must choose one of his three sons -- John (Rafe Spall), Geoffrey (John Light), or Richard (Andrew Howard) -- to rule the British empire. Henry wants to announce his successor at a Christmas gathering of his court a few weeks hence, and in time for the event, he has decided to free his headstrong wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine (Glenn Close), who has been held in captivity for attempting to overthrow her husband's rule and expressing her displeasure with his mistress, Alais (Yuliya Vysotskaya). As Henry and Eleanor become re-acquainted, they are reminded of the love they share as well as the strife that drives them apart, and while Henry finds himself favoring his youngest son, John, for his post, Eleanor makes a strong case for her first-born, Richard, with Geoffrey attempting to consolidate influence in a bid for power. However, as the king looks back at his long past and short future, he comes to the sad realization that none of his sons are truly fit to rule. James Goldman wrote the screenplay for this, the second screen adaptation of his award-winning play, which finally came to fruition 5 years after Goldman's death. Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn starred in the Oscar-winning 1968 version. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

1968 was a year of extraordinary tragedy, triumph, and transformation. The assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy failed to halt the juggernaut of the Civil Rights Movement. Richard Nixon was elected President following riots at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. As rockets rained down on fighting men in Vietnam, a NASA rocket carried men into lunar orbit. From music to politics to issues of feminism, race, and war, 1968 left almost no facet of American life unchanged. Now, legendary award-winning journalist and best-selling author Tom Brokaw commemorates the revolutionary events of this pivotal year in a feature-length special, inspired by his book, 'Boom!: Voices of the Sixties - Personal Reflections on the '60s and Today.' Drawing upon his decades of experience, Brokaw revisits the scenes of these iconic events, pairing provocative voices from the past and present to explore how these 40-year-old moments still impact our lives today.

Destiny brings together a young lion and a young man in this drama from South African filmmaker Michael Swan. According to the legends of the Shangaan people of Africa, white lions are sacred creatures favored by the gods, and they're seen so rarely in the wild that when one is discovered, a Shangaan will be assigned to protect it. When a white lion cub is born near a Shangaan village, the other animals aren't sure what to make of the creature; the young lion named Letsatsi is rejected by its pride and must strike out on its own. Gisani (Thabo Malema), a Shangaan tribesman, learns that the white lion has left the wilds near his village and he follows Letsatsi to make sure the animal is safe and protect it from predators. An older lion named Nkulu makes friends with Letsatsi and shows the younger cat how to survive in the wild; meanwhile, Gisani takes a job as a hunting guide to support himself while staying in the wilds and keeping an eye on Letsatsi. However, when Nkulu is shot to death by a farmer and Letsatsi is targeted by one of Gisani's clients, the young warrior must take dramatic action to save the sacred lion. White Lion received its North American premiere at the 2010 Seattle International Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
