Marianne and JuIiane: Profound, multilevel Ed, and memorable journal of the relation between 2 siblings, alike in some ways yet so extremely variant in others. Juliane Lampe is a feminist editor performing within the system; Marianne Sukowa is an extreme partisan alarmist. Act of Violence: Act of Violence is a tense drama where we follow a man who was permanently injured during the war. He is now after the senior officer who abandoned his men in a prisoner of war camp. The stars are Van Heflin, Robert Ryan, Janet Leigh, Mary Astor, and Phyllis Thaxter. (1948 drama directed by Fred Zinnemann)

The Notebook: A man visits a woman who has dementia, which has taken her memory, and reads her an epic love story from an old notebook. She enjoys hearing the stories, and is amazed at the dedication and love that is shared between the two people. For a moment she might realize just who the story is about, and then the realization is gone. Her husband will come day after day to read their story to her, just to hope for a fleeting moment where his beloved wife can remember who she is.

Lurking Fear: On a hot, sunlit Christmas in Massachusetts, crooks and beast brawlers encounter each other in an old temple, delaying for the beings that live in burrows underneath to make their annual assault. Seedy and tiresome, this appears mole acquired from KEY LARGO than from H. P. Love’s tale. Shot in Romania, and looks it. Cast includes Jon Finch, Blake Bailey, Ashley Lanren, Jeffrey Combs, Allison Mackie, Paul Mantee, and Vincent Schiavelli. (76 minutes, 1994)

Bringing up The Wind reveals Zany antics from an off-beat group of students at a London school of music are well paced. The Cast includes James Robertson, Leslie Phillips, Sidney James, Paul Massie, and Kenneth Williams. (91 minutes, 1961)

Committed: Youthful N.Y.C. club supervisor believes in pledge at work and in her matrimony albeit she’s enclosed by stoner buddies, so she’s thrown for a loop while her husband Wilson bolts to “find him-self.” Graham is the entire show here, although she’s adhered in a lightweight street-film/lifestyle-conflict story. If this is screwball romance for the new millennium, we’re in trouble. Cast includes Heather Graham, Casey Affleck, Luke Wilson, Goran Visnjic, Alfonso Arau, Mary Kay Place, Dylan Baker, and Carlin Glynn. (98 minutes, 2000)

Metro: Murphy is a self-promised captive bargainer for the SFPD. This action film needs his thousand-watt identity to keep it afloat. Structuring is cluttered and unsurprising, with a heinous scoundrel Wincott who demonstrates so indestructible that while he ultimately dies, there’s no delight since we’re not certain he’s seriously involved. Action highlight: an absconded cable car. Cast includes Eddie Murphy, Michael Rapaport, Michael Wincott, Carmen Ejogo, Denis Arndt, Craft Evans, Donal Logue, and Kim Miyori. (117 minutes, 1997)

Soul Food: The tradition of Sunday dinners with Mama Joe has kept the family together for going on 40 years. When she is hospitalized with diabetes, the Sunday dinners stop. Almost immediately the family falls into turmoil, with lots of infighting and problems. Finally Mama Joe’s grandson Ahmad sees what needs to be done, and Sunday dinners are revived.

Analyze This: Crime boss Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro) has enlisted the help of a psychiatrist Ben Sobel (Billy Crystal). Paul is having anxiety attacks, an unusual problem for a mafia boss. Now, Ben Sobel’s life is turned upside down, as he finds himself being controlled by one of his patients.
