During recent years a lot of well-known and famous films were shot on Malta, because it turned out that Malta has all conditions to be one of the best places for film making, because today many producers and filmmakers prefer to use natural scenery.

The amazing world of Malta was firstly shown in blockbuster of 2004 “Troy” with such famous movie stars as Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. The most part of film was made at Fort Ricasoli, which was built by Maltese Knights in 17th century. “Different Loyalty” with Sharon Stone was also made in Maltese Fort St. Elmo. It was shown as a city of Beirut in the movie. Another big movie “Alexander” also contains several scenes with views of Malta, to be exactly of Grand Harbor of Valetta. In 1995 pirate movie “Cutthroat Island” was also shot in Malta. Such places as Vittoriosa, Fort St. Elmo, Mdina and Maltese Maritime Museum took part in the process of shooting. Some scenes of “Gladiator” with Russell Crowe were also made on Malta. The copy of Roman Coliseum was built in Maltese Fort Ricasoli. In the year 2002 famous movie “The Count of Monte Cristo” was shot in Valetta and Vittoriasa. In genera besides above mentioned movies, a lot of other well-known and interesting films were shot on Malta, like for Example: “Midnight Express”, “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, “Helen of Troy”.

Now Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar is shooting on Malta big film called “Agora” with such movie stars as Max Minghella and Rachel Weisz. This film is to be the largest movie shot on Malta.
