The Gun Riders (1969)
What are synonyms for “like” and “such as”?
Like if I’m writing a list of movies in the 1960s.
Boring would be “It was the decade of historical drama, like Cleopatra (1963), Joseph and His Brethren (1960), The Guns of Navarone (1961), and Lawrence of Arabia (1962), spy films, such as The James Bond movies, Topkapi (1964), and Ocean’s Eleven (1960), the rock-and-roll movies, such as Easy Rider (1969), and the hilarious cartoons, like The Jungle Book (1967), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966), A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965), and Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964).”
Why don’t you just drop “like” and “such as” and punctuate differently, i.e.
It was the decade of historical drama — Cleopatra (1963), Joseph and His Brethren (1960), The Guns of Navarone (1961), and Lawrence of Arabia (1962); spy films — the James Bond movies, Topkapi (1964), and Ocean’s Eleven (1960); rock-and-roll movies like Easy Rider (1969); and hilarious cartoons — The Jungle Book (1967), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966), A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965), and Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964).
