The Hairdresser’s Husband (1990)

Very vague I know but I am trying to find a french black and white film I saw on Channel 4 in the UK around 1990. This is a slow-moving, sensuous film that I remember centred on a man falling for a middle aged hairdresser in a small town he was visiting. Much of the film was set in the hairdresser’s shop where he had his hair cut by the co-star. I seem to remember that the man or the hairdresser may have committed suicide at the end of the film, perhaps by jumping off a bridge…
