The In-Laws (1979)

What happens to a US citizens bank account when they die in another country and they have no will?

My father-in-law’s brother-in-law was a US citizen and he died in Austria in 1979. We think he had money in the bank…where would we go to try and track in down if it was never claimed or taken care of by his next of kin?

You should check the website of the state that the deceased person was considered a resident of for an escheatment department. Many states offer the ability to search their databases online for unclaimed property. A private investigator can be of help as many states offer them a portion of unclaimed property if they track down the rightful owners. Be aware that after a certain length of time has passed the property becomes owned by the state rather than next of kin. Given that this is from 1979, you may be out of luck.

(Let's forgive him for Striptease.) Arkin is extraordinarily funny as a dentist who quickly grows skeptical about the wild claims of his daughter's future father-in-law (Peter Falk) that he is a CIA agent. Whe...
