The Lair Of The White Worm (1988)
What became of the protean British director, Ken Russell?
In his day, he was a very daring film maker. I remember “Women in Love” (1970) with Glenda Jackson where Alan Bates and Oliver Reed wrestled in the nude, his film version of “The Who’s Tommy” (1975) with the unforgettable Eric Clapton “St. Marilyn” sequence. And then nothing.
I saw his last picture in 1988: “The Lair of the White Worm” with Hugh Grant. Perverse, hilarious, haunting….all things this gentleman seemed to specialize in.
Is it possible so much time has passed that he has passed away?
The one time enfant terrible of british cinema – after a few excesses perhaps he couldnt get major funding anymore.
He starred Roger Daltrey in Lisztomania
Dont forget The Devils with Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave.

It's got all the perversity one expects from the bombastic director of Tommy and Altered States: sensible plotting, intelligent dialogue laced with double entendre, graphic imagery with Boschian intensity, and a mischievous di... |
