The Missionary (1982)
I need help with some halloween trivia.?
1. November 1, 1982. Almost 8,000 “missionary bottles” are launched 50 miles off the coast of California filled with Christian literature. A letter was received back from which country?
2. In the Tim Burton’s version of the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” Who plays the character role of Icabod Crane?
3. What is the more modern, American origins of “Trick or Treat?”
4. What are the origins of the colors “orange and black?”
5. November 2, what begins in modern day Osceola?
Any answer is much appreciated.
Thanks.
1. The Phillipines
2. Tim Burton’s version from 1999 is called “Sleepy Hollow” and Johhny Depp plays Ichabod Crane.
3.Americans began to dress up in costumes and go house to house asking for food or money, a practice that eventually became today’s “trick-or-treat” tradition. Trick-or-treating was a relatively inexpensive way for an entire community to share the Halloween celebration. In theory, families could also prevent tricks being played on them by providing the neighborhood children with small treats.
4. As the Celtics are given the most credit for beginning the holiday as the festival of the harvest, a color of autumn is used. Orange, being the most prevalent autumn tone, is derived from the pumpkin and leaves.
The color orange also signifies strength and endurance and the Celtics may .have believed the color orange gave courage to those who wore the color during battle.
Halloween was once (and still may be in some areas) a festival of the dead. Death is usually associated with darkness and absence of light signified by the color black.
Black cats, witches hats, cauldrons, and streamers are a few of the items that are reminders of the holiday. Most candies at this time of year are in black and orange wrappers.
Traditionally, Halloween is always celebrated after sunset. The blackness of the night cloaks the revelers and hides their misdeeds or tricks if they don’t receive any treats.
