I know It was either late 80’s or early 90’s and that it was after
the movie “Muppets take Manhattan” [which was made in 1984].

Muppets Creator Jim Henson died May 16,1990 in New York,New York.He was the founder creator of,Jim Henson’s Creature Shop,The Jim Henson Foundation and The Jim Henson Company.
IN 1969 He went to work with Joan Ganz Cooney and The Children’s Television Workshop on Sesame Street.
IN May of 1990, while in North Carolina he began experiencing Flu-Like symptoms(May 13).It was found not to be pneumonia.He was given only Aspirin.On May 14 he began coughing up blood by the next morining he was placed on a mechanical ventalator.He detoriated very fast.He went into septic shock and had absceces on his lungs.Despite a aggressive treatment of Anti Biotics he still passed away some 20 hours later.At age 53 Jim Henson passed away,the cause of death was multiple organ failure.
